| The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Bangladesh, in collaboration with Wageningen University & Research (WUR), organized a five-day capacity-building training workshop on “Harmful Chemicals Management in Bangladesh” at WUR, the Netherlands, from 27–31 October 2025.
The training was organized under the Pesticide Risk Reduction in Bangladesh Project, funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), and implemented by FAO Bangladesh. The workshop aimed to strengthen the knowledge and capacity of government officials and FAO Bangladesh staff on the sustainable and safe management of harmful chemicals, focusing on lifecycle management, policy mapping, registration procedures, and awareness creation. A total of 15 participants from various government agencies, including the Department of Environment (DoE), MoEFCC, Planning Commission, Department of Fisheries (DoF), Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock (MoFL), Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), Ministry of Agriculture (MoA), and FAO Bangladesh, took part in the workshop. Participants gained a deeper understanding of European Union (EU) best practices in pesticide and chemical management. The workshop also reinforced inter-agency collaboration among DoE, DAE, and DoF to ensure a coherent national response to chemical management challenges. Additionally, key priority areas for policy reform and institutional capacity building were identified to strengthen Bangladesh’s national framework for safe chemical management. |
