| Bangladesh’s fisheries and aquaculture sector has marked another international milestone as renowned fish nutrition specialist Saifi Nasir has been admitted as a member of the European Association of Fish Pathologists (EAFP). The recognition highlights Bangladesh’s growing presence in the global aquatic animal health and nutrition community.
Founded on October 25, 1979, in Munich, European Association of Fish Pathologists is a leading non-profit scientific body dedicated to advancing knowledge on diseases of fish and shellfish in both aquaculture systems and wild stocks. The association was established to strengthen collaboration among scientists, veterinarians, microbiologists, and aquaculture professionals, and it publishes the peer-reviewed Bulletin of the EAFP. Today, the organization brings together more than 800 members from 45 countries through 37 active branches, making it the largest international professional network focused on fish and shellfish pathology. According to an official letter dated February 17, 2026, and signed by General Secretary Jerko Hrabar, Saifi Nasir has been assigned membership ID 2026003. The letter invited him to complete registration on the EAFP website and offered technical assistance if any issues arise during the process. Nasir currently serves as Assistant General Manager (Fish Feed) at KGS Group, based in Dhaka. Over the years, he has built a strong professional reputation in fish feed formulation, aquatic nutrition management, and sustainable aquaculture development. His practical contributions to improving feed efficiency and fish health have been widely recognized within Bangladesh’s fisheries sector. Beyond his latest achievement, Nasir maintains active involvement in several respected professional bodies at home and abroad, including the Fisheries Society of Bangladesh (FSB), Nepal Fisheries Society (NFS), Nigeria Fisheries Society (NFS), Bangladesh Tilapia Foundation (BTF), the Society for Freshwater Science (SFS), and the Japanese Society of Fisheries Science (JSFS). His participation in these platforms has contributed to stronger international visibility for Bangladesh’s aquaculture research community. Industry observers say Nasir’s inclusion in the European Association of Fish Pathologists reflects the increasing global recognition of Bangladeshi expertise in fisheries nutrition and health management.
