A delegation from Global Affairs Canada (GAC) recently visited key intervention sites under the SAFE+2 Project in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar. The delegation was represented by Pearl Wierenga, First Secretary, and Ruhul Amin, Development Advisor.
The team visited the Hatimura Aggregation Center, the BFRI nursery, and Camps 4 and 17, accompanied by officials from the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) and the respective Camp-in-Charge (CiC).
During the field mission, the delegation observed a range of activities benefiting both Rohingya refugees and host communities, including:
- Market aggregation and value chain support,
- Solar-powered irrigation systems,
- Winter seed distribution,
- Aquaculture development,
- Native tree nursery initiatives.
These interventions aim to enhance food security, promote renewable energy, support livelihoods, and restore ecosystems in the region.
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) expressed its appreciation to Global Affairs Canada for their continued partnership and support, highlighting that such initiatives play a crucial role in strengthening sustainable development and climate resilience in Cox’s Bazar.
This initiative is being implemented with the support of Canada’s International Development – Global Affairs Canada, the World Food Programme (WFP), and UNHCR in Bangladesh.
