Research Inception Workshop on BAS-USDA Project Held at SAU

Dhaka, 11 December 2025: A Research Inception Workshop on the BAS-USDA Project was held today at the Seminar Room, 3rd Floor, Administrative Building, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU), Dhaka. The workshop was organized by the SAU Research System (SAURES) to initiate and discuss newly awarded research projects under the collaboration between the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences (BAS) and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).

The projects have been awarded to Prof. Dr. Mirza Hasanuzzaman (Department of Agronomy), Prof. Dr. Mahbub Islam (Department of Agricultural Botany), and Prof. Dr. Md. Jamilur Rahman (Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding), who will lead the research activities under this initiative. Three senior BAS fellows, Prof. Dr. Z. N. Tahmida Begum, Dr. Md. Idris Ali, and Prof. Dr. Jahiruddin, were present as members of the monitoring team for these projects.

The workshop was inaugurated by Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Latif, Vice-Chancellor of SAU, as the chief guest. Special guests included Professor Dr. Md. Belal Hossain, Pro-Vice Chancellor; Prof. Md. Abul Bashar, Treasurer; Prof. Dr. Jahiruddin, Fellow, BAS; Dr. M. Idris Ali, Fellow, BAS; and Prof. Dr. Z. N. Tahmida Begum, Fellow, BAS. The program was chaired by Professor Dr. F. M. Aminuzzaman, Director (Research), SAURES, SAU.

The workshop provided a platform for the researchers and monitoring team to discuss project objectives, methodologies, and expected outcomes, aiming to strengthen agricultural research, innovation, and collaboration between national and international institutions.
