| A Brackishwater Aquaculture Cluster Meeting was held on 16 April 2026 in Bhimavaram, Andhra Pradesh, where Shri Sagar Mehra, Joint Secretary of the Department of Fisheries, Government of India, presented a comprehensive overview of various government schemes and investment initiatives in the fisheries sector.
He highlighted the strategic importance of the Bhimavaram Brackishwater Aquaculture Cluster, describing it as a key driver of India’s seafood export growth and a potential hub for future expansion. He emphasized the need for cluster-based development, effective convergence of different schemes, and targeted interventions to promote sustainable fisheries, enhance productivity, and improve the livelihoods of coastal communities. Participants at the meeting also discussed opportunities for strengthening the aquaculture value chain, promoting modern technologies, and expanding export-oriented production in a sustainable manner. |
