| Sylhet, 2 November 2025: To develop Regional Investment Plans (RIPs) addressing key agro-ecological challenges such as salinity, drought, flash floods, and market access, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA), organized a Regional Consultation Workshop in Sylhet under the Agricultural Strategic Transformation Plan (AsTP) project, funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
The workshop, led by the Ministry of Agriculture and implemented by the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC) with the support of DAE, BADC, BARI, and BRRI, aimed to ensure stronger coordination and local ownership in agricultural development planning. Dr. Mohammad Emdad Ullah Mian, Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, attended the event as Chief Guest. In his remarks, he emphasized that tackling regional agro-ecological challenges requires inclusive participation and localized investment planning involving all key actors—from government agencies and research institutions to private sector stakeholders and farmers. Participants from MoA agencies, local government bodies, academia, the private sector, and farmer groups shared valuable insights and regional perspectives. These inputs will contribute to shaping the upcoming national plan “Transforming Bangladesh Agriculture: Outlook 2050,” which envisions a climate-smart, resilient, and market-driven agricultural future for Bangladesh. Speakers expressed optimism that this collaborative and consultative approach will strengthen agricultural transformation and ensure sustainable growth across the country’s diverse agro-ecological regions. |
