| Jakarta, Indonesia, 25 September 2025: The 34th Conference of the Regional Commission for Asia and the Pacific was held in Jakarta, Indonesia, from 22 to 25 September 2025, jointly organized by the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) and the Ministry of Agriculture of Indonesia. Delegates from across Asia and the Pacific gathered to discuss sustainable livestock development, the prevention of transboundary animal diseases, food security, and the “One Health” approach.
Representing Bangladesh, Dr. Md. Abu Sufian, Director General of the Department of Livestock Services (DLS), actively participated in the conference. He engaged in discussions with representatives from other member countries, highlighting Bangladesh’s progress and challenges in the livestock sector. In the photo, Dr. Abu Sufian is seen alongside the delegates from Bhutan and Australia during the session. Speakers at the conference emphasized regional collaboration to tackle major issues such as transboundary animal diseases, zoonotic diseases, antimicrobial resistance, and the need for timely disease detection and rapid response. The host country, Indonesia, particularly highlighted the importance of the One Health concept, stressing that human, animal, and environmental health are interconnected.
Experts believe that Bangladesh’s participation in this high-level platform will provide opportunities to share experiences, strengthen partnerships, and adopt strategies that will contribute to the country’s livestock development and food security in the years to come. |
