Novus Innovation Team Welcomes Dr. Steven Guan

Novus has strengthened its innovation capabilities by appointing Dr. Steven (Shaohua) Guan as the Manager of Microbiology, Molecular Biology and Fermentation Lead. In this role, Dr. Guan will advance the company’s expertise in microbiology and fermentation as part of its mission to develop intelligent nutrition solutions for animal producers.

Dr. Guan will design, conduct, and interpret a wide range of microbiology, molecular biology, and biochemistry research focused on enzymes, direct-fed microbials (DFMs), and other fermentation-derived products. These studies will be executed both at the Novus global headquarters in Missouri, USA, and through collaborations with external research partners.

“I am excited to join the Novus Innovation team,” Dr. Guan says. “I look forward to contributing to innovation projects, supporting strategic initiatives with co-development partners, and providing essential scientific expertise to the applied research and regulatory affairs teams.”

Dr. Guan brings more than two decades of experience in fermentation process development across lab, pilot, and commercial scales. His background includes leadership roles such as Principal Scientist at Dalan Animal Health, Senior Scientist at Kemin Industries, and Director of Bioprocessing R&D at Agricen Sciences. He has extensive knowledge in optimizing fermentation media and processes for bacteria, yeasts, and filamentous fungi used in food, feed, pharmaceutical, and agricultural applications. He is also recognized for his strong leadership in building and managing high-performing fermentation teams and establishing bioprocessing facilities.

According to Associate Director of Innovation Gaurav Shah, adding Dr. Guan to the team marks a significant step forward for Novus.
“Steven’s deep expertise in fermentation and microbiology will enable us to deliver forward-thinking, science-based solutions to customers more efficiently,” Shah says. “Strengthening these capabilities in-house—combined with our existing strengths in process chemistry, formulation, and analytical sciences—positions us to accelerate innovation and reinforce our leadership in intelligent nutrition.”
